Textile Heritage of Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone's textile heritage is dyed cloth. Gara, the country's tie-dye and batik, takes its name from the gara leaves of the indigo plant, and is practised in Freetown and in Makeni, where it is an important activity of local women, passed down by apprenticeship within families.
